Now you’re tortured and you’re strange. It’s already begun. Why keep throwing punches when you know that I’ve won?

“I always thought that about the Garden of Eden story,” said Ford. “Eh?” “Garden of Eden. Tree. Apple. That bit, remember?” “Yes of course I do.” “Your God person puts an apple tree in the middle of a garden and says do what you like guys, oh, but don’t eat the apple. Surprise surprise, they eat it and he leaps out from behind a bush shouting `Gotcha’. It wouldn’t have made any difference if they hadn’t eaten it.” “Why not?” “Because if you’re dealing with somebody who has the sort of mentality which likes leaving hats on the pavement with bricks under them you know perfectly well they won’t give up. They’ll get you in the end.” “What are you talking about?” “Never mind, eat the fruit.”

Now I don’t know why, you persisted to, leave me out in the dark

I should really say something good about the company I work for. I know people have a tendency to believe that insurance companies are evil (believe me, I was the same several years ago), but really, there is no huge conspiracy to screw people out of paid claims or to hurt anyone. Let me give you an idea of the efficiency that this company is run. We are a “not for profit” company, which means that all proceeds goes back and is invested back in to the corporation. Can you guess how much of a person’s monthly premiums go in to operating costs? The results will surprise you. About 8 cents of every dollar goes in to our operating costs. More to the point, about 8%. Think about that, as that’s a fairly small number for the amount of paperwork, red tape, government regulations, customer service, customer education, seminars, and marketing/advertising we go through. In comparison, the “Christian’s Children Fund”, a “non-profit” organization, spends 18% of its cash flow on management and fundraising. 18 cents of every dollar you send them will end up paying someone’s salary or some sort of advertising or fundraising. The CEO of my company is

Beauty and stupidity: Yes, they go hand in hand

What is with these moronic people and their fixation on beauty? Seriously. I’ve watched these dense men and women constantly chasing after their next boyfriend or girlfriend, and base their entire relationship purely on physical attractiveness. I’m sorry, but as a general rule, people who are beautiful (and know that they are, or believe themselves to be) have no spine. They have no character and it’s essentially like trying to have a conversation with a turnip. I admit that I’ve dated a few girls that, while attractive, were a bit (okay, a lot) vacant in the head. But I dumped them within days. Days. Sometimes hours. I also didn’t sleep with them, either. What kind of a person would do such a thing? I can’t wrap my mind around it. Beauty isn’t everything. Attraction is important, sure, but when you sacrifice intelligence and decency, it becomes a burden and nothing more. The girls that I dumped were shocked. Shocked that I would have the audacity to dump them when they believe themselves to be so beautiful. And the people that stay with these self absorbed assholes also have the audacity to be surprised when they’re cheated on. Are you stupid?

Making the elections fair and reasonable

I have three simple ideas that, I think, would completely level the playing field when it comes to Presidential elections. Would they ever happen? Of course not. The two party system is hopelessly biased and corrupt, and allows for major profits on both sides of the spectrum. Sorry, I don’t buy that Democrats are squeaky clean. They are, after all, politicians. Republicans are just as bad, don’t get me wrong. When there’s room for corruption and money, two components that a congressman or candidate really appreciates, look out. So what are my suggestions? Simple: 1.) Get rid of the electoral college, and go by popular vote alone. Simple. 2.) There should be an election for the top, say, four or five candidates for the position. Not by party, but by the entire country. 3.) Each person that is elected as a candidate is then provided with a set amount of media allotment (newspaper, magazine, television) by the election process. They are given money for election purposes (banners, flyers, signs, travel), but are not allowed to use any of it for any kind of media use. They are not allowed to have any more time in the media than is given

The beautiful people

Not to say that all people that are “beautiful” are assholes, but I’d wager a decent portion of them are. I overheard the following conversation on the bus yesterday: Girl: “She has gotten soooo ugly in the last few months.” Guy: “Yeah. She has.” Girl: “And she always glares at me because I’m so much prettier than her.” Guy: “Yeah.” Girl: “I mean, she just wants to be as pretty as me, and she stares at me because of it.” At this point, having heard this minor exchange, I couldn’t help myself. I couldn’t. It was impossible for me to hear somebody speak that way and not say something. Me: “Excuse me, I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation.” Girl: “Uh huh?” *Exhasperated and bitchy look* Me: “Did you consider that maybe she glares at you because you’re one of those types of people that thinks that everything revolves around you, and that you’re prettier than everyone else?” Guy: “Hey! Mother f#$^!r! Don’t talk to her like that!” Me: “Well then, I guess you’re made for each other. Excuse me sir, but why would you want to be with someone so shallow and stupid? Actually, you know what? Never mind. Enjoy your

The dangers of religion

I know I’m not going to be popular for this post; that’s okay. There are a great many things in this world that bother me, but ruffling a few feathers isn’t one of them. I was reading through one of my favorite forums (Arstechnica) today, and ran across a thread about geocentric religious zealots. Instead of trying to explain the entire argument, I have attached visuals from the thread that I was perusing. Here you go: If you’re still too lazy to look at the images, I’ll summarize: These are religious zealots that claim that the Earth is in fact the center of the solar system and that the sun revolves around the Earth. They also claim that there has been no successful scientific experiment to back up the claim that the Sun is the center of our solar system. I’m baffled by ignorance as blatant as this. In fact, I’m led to believe that this is just another scam being perpetrated by someone looking to make a quick buck. I’m sure (sadly) that there are enough gullible people in this world to make a scam artist like this rich, but I’m not sure which scenario is worse: a religious
